We experienced challenges when we tried to bring a single Danish equipment product to biogas projects in the Chinese market. The up-stream and the down-stream equipment installations or the process design do not completely match the quality or the efficiency of the Danish product. By establishing a Danish consortium which can provide with total Danish-featured solutions for the Chinese clients, we can bring the value of the Danish products into full play in a project. As what we have learned from our Chinese partners, a total solution is more convenient for them in project bidding and execution. Secondly, working together as a consortium, the participant Danish companies can to a large extent reduce the cost for market development in China. And thirdly, the workload for making offers and for contract negotiation can be reduced significantly.
For the time being, we have started to establish the following two consortia, which are called 'The Danish Straw-for-Heating Technology Consortium' and 'The Danish Urban Biomass Technology Consortium', respectly.
The Danish Straw-for-Heating Technology Consortium
This consortium, for time being, includes the following companies and knowledge institute:
In the urban areas in China, only processed straw is allowed to be used as fuel for boilers due to the requirement by the stringent emission standards. With C.F.Nielsen A/S in the consortium, we can help our clients converting straw to briquettes. Alcon boiler is very much suitable to the schools, hospitals, farms and other organizations in the rural areas, where small scale boilers are suitable. Teldust filter can ensure that Alcon boiler meets the Chinese emission standards. Justsen boiler system can be used for large scale, and for both hot water and for steam production. Aarhus university can always provide with assistance for with technology development.
This consortium can provide, for the local district heating operation companies and for the local municipalities, with solutions for both small scale and large scale projects, for projects both in the urban and in the rural areas, and with commitment of the Chinese emission standards.
C.F. Nielsen A/S produces the worlds’ largest range of briquetting presses ranging from 200 kg to more than 5.000 kg per hour. The presses are sold all over the world for different biomasses, including agricultural straw, into briquette. C.F.Nielsen briquetteing presses are characterised by high output, high efficiency, low energy consumption, and cost on wear parts. >>
Alcon A/S is a company, which manufactures high efficient, manually stocked straw boilers with outputs in the range from 30kW to 12,000 kW. Under the support of the Midtnet Kina Program, Alcon A/S has modified its boiler in order to adapt to the charisterastics of the Chinese local maize straw, climate conditions and the environmental standards. >>
Teldust A/S is a producer of high efficienct dust filters dedicated to biomass boiler. In China, biomass boilers must be equipped with dust removal devices, due to stringent emission standards. Teldust A/S is a partner of our Midtnet Kina project, through which Teldust filter is coupled to Alcon boiler. >>
The Engineering Department of Aarhus University is a knowledge institute specialized in improving the biomass combustion efficiency and reducing emissions for biomass boilers. In our Midtnet Kina project, Aarhus University is responsible for providing innovation and testing of Alcon boiler. >>
The Danish Urban Biomass Technology Consortium
This consortium is organized for providing Danish urban waste treatment solutions for the Chinese market. For the time being, it includes the following companies:
Gemidan Ecogi A/S
Renew Energy A/S
In China, urban biomass includes among others restaurant waste, the organic fraction of household waste, residuals from food and beverage business, sludge from wastewater treatment plant. Such waste streams can be large in quantity in cities where population is huge. If not disposed, the wastes will impose severe threat to the environment.
In Denmark, urban biomass is disposed through pre-treatment and anaerobic digestion for biogas and fertilizer production. This is the most sustainable way and the technology has been well established and matured in Denmark.
In China, it is required that the municipalities take the responsibility to have urban biomass disposed before discharge. Recently, a new regulation, that requests the organic fraction in household waste has to be souce-sorted in big cities, has been promulgated. This means increasing amount of urban biomass is available for biogas and fertilizer production. This gives opportunities for the relevant Danish companies.
Gemidan Ecogi A/S develops, supplies and operates processing technologies for the treating and recycling of food waste from households, businesses and industry. Its Ecogi press is able to recover 95% of the organic material from food wastes, to a pulp which is > 99.9% free from physical contamination for conversion into biogas using anaerobic digestion (AD). The process is designed to minimize operating costs through a fully computerised control system and reduced maintenance requirements. >>
Renew Energy A/S is an experienced engineering and consulting company, which undertakes the whole turnkey contract of the biogas project from the very beginning to the handover of the plant. Renew Energy A/S has completed a number of biogas plants including the world largest state-of-the-art ecological biogas plant, Månsson biogas plant, in Denmark. >>
Westcome Heat Exchanger A/S is an innovative company, which has developed and patented high viscosity heat exchanger with the highest efficiency and the lowest pressure loss among comparable products. Such equipment is of vital importance to recover the heat in the digester effluent in order to keep the process stablity and the economy of a biogas plant. >>
NISSEN energy A/S designs, constructs, installs high quality and high efficiency CHP units, as well as complete CHP plants, which convert biogas (or nature gas) into electricity and heat. The electricity can be sold to the grid. The heat is necessary for compensating the heat loss in the digester system to maitain the process temprature. The surplus heat can be sold to district heating. >>
