Our focus is to, based on the agreements reached during the meetings between the top leaders of China and Denmark, enhance the cooperation and friendship between Denmark and China, through promotion the cooperation in different industries, especially in the sectors energy, environment and water.
Denmark is one of the first western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, to provide government loans to China and actively invest in China after China’s reform and opening up. Since Denmark entered into a comprehensive strategic partnership with China in 2008, there has been a framework for the cooperation between Denmark and China. The strategic partnership was the starting point for an authority's cooperation, which has been further developed and formed the cornerstone of the bilateral relationship.
Over the past years, the China-Denmark Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has expanded both in width and depth, with closer high-level exchanges, deeper political mutual trust, more fruitful cooperation and thriving cultural and people-to-people contacts, bringing tangible benefits to both countries and peoples.
Climate, energy, environmental protection, and water affairs are key areas of cooperation between the two countries. We are very honoured to work hard to implement the important agreement reached by the leaders of our two countries, enhance mutual understanding and trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperations and deepen and substantiate the bilateral relations.
Lars Løkke Rasmussen's visit to China
In August 2023, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who served as the Prime Minister of Denmark on two separate occasions, from April 2009 to October 2011 and again from June 2015 to June 2019, carried out a successful visit to China as the Danish foreign minister. During his visit, he was received by, among others high-level leaders of the Chinese central government, Han Zheng who is the vice chairman of China, Wangyi who is the foreign minister, Wang Wentao who is the commerce minister, Chen Jining who is the secretary of Shanghai CCP and the former eco-environment minister. He received the highest courtesy during his visit in China. This has shown the great importance that the Chinese government and the Danish government are attaching to the cooperation between the two countries.
One of the most important outcomes of Lars Løkke Rasmussen's visit is the new Danish-Chinese work program, the Green Joint Work Programme, which was signed by the two foreign ministers, Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Wang Yi, on behalf of the two countries.
The Green Joint Work Programme, which will be implemented in the Period 2023-2026, is a continuation of previous work program ran in the period 2017-2020. Its important focus is sustainable green transition across the sectors of climate, energy, environment and water, shipping, food and agriculture, and health.
